Kayangan Lake is one of the most popular sights on the island and is included in the Coron island-hopping cruises that depart from town on a regular basis. It is also one of the cleanest waters in Asia.
How to Get There
Getting to Kayangan Lake itself involves quite a few steps, but it is with confidence that the entire journey will be worth it once you see this breathtaking body of water and its picturesque surroundings. First, you need to reach Coron. Coming from Manila, take a flight to Busuanga Airport. Upon arrival, you will then ride a shuttle van to get to Coron Town proper. Coron is also accessible via sea travel, with ferry trips coming from Manila.
The town of Coron is where most resorts, hotels, and restaurants are located, and the jumpoff point to reach Kayangan Lake, which is located in Coron Island.
To avoid confusion, Coron town is different from Coron Island. The former is part of Busuanga Island.
From Coron Town, you will then need to sign up to join a Coron Island group tour or rent a private boat to take you to Kayangan Lake. Most of these tours take you to several tourist attractions around Coron Island including other majestic lakes, idyllic islands, and stunning lagoons with waters abundant with marine life.
Best Time to Visit
As with the rest of the Philippines, Coron enjoys both dry and wet seasons. It is highly recommended to visit Kayangan Lake and the rest of Coron during the dry months of November until May. After all, island getaways and beach escapades are most often enjoyed when skies are clear, sun is shining bright, and waters are calm. You may fully experience these during the summer months of March, April, and May. However, since this is peak travel season in the Philippines, expect to bump into a crowd of tourists.
While Kayangan Lake and other Coron attractions are open all year round, visiting during the rainy months of June until October is not recommended as there will be chances that flights and boat trips will be cancelled due to inclement weather, bringing heavy rains and seeing rough seas.
Most boat trips to Kayangan Lake leave Coron town mid-morning, but if you wish to avoid the crowds lining up for a photo at its famous viewpoint and on the lake itself, make arrangements with your tour operator or chartered boat to leave early in the morning.

Do not miss the chance to take a dip into what is regarded as the cleanest lake in the entire country. The waters in Kayangan Lake are 30% saltwater and 70% freshwater, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The water is also so clear that you can already see the amazing rock formations beneath the surface. Bamboo rafts are also available for visitors to hop on and explore the lake, together with a local guide.
Kayangan Lake has also become a favorite spot for freedivers because of its amazing water conditions and interesting marine life.
Are there any rules to follow while visiting Kayangan Lake?
Kayangan Lake is maintained by the local Tagbanua people of Coron, who have ancestral domain rights of the area. These locals revere the lake and its surroundings as sacred, so making any loud noises or any scandalous activities are strictly prohibited.
For such an enchanting and marvellous place like Kayangan Lake, and as with any other tourist destination, it is always encouraged to leave no trash and belongings behind.
